On the 81st birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and top Congress leaders paid tribute to his legacy on Wednesday.
The All India Congress Committee organised a commemorative event at Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial, Vir Bhumi, attended by senior leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, K.C. Venugopal, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “On his birth anniversary today, my tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji.” Kharge highlighted Gandhi’s contributions, saying, “His initiatives in lowering the voting age to 18, strengthening Panchayati Raj, promoting telecom and IT, women empowerment, universal vaccination, and inclusive education transformed India.”
Priyanka Gandhi paid homage at Vir Bhumi, adding, “We inherited the religion of compassion, love, and patriotism from you. We will follow this path forever, and our steps will never falter.”
The anniversary also coincides with Sadbhavana Diwas, commemorating Rajiv Gandhi’s vision of national unity and progress.
