Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Sujeet Kumar has accused the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) of staging “agenda-driven” protests that selectively target BJP-ruled states while ignoring similar issues elsewhere, following the youth-led group’s demonstration in Delhi on Saturday.
Speaking to ANI, Kumar said the CJP’s protest in the capital was timed according to its own convenience. “The issues they raised—education reforms and examination reforms—were valid and had the support of many young people across the country. But when students in Jharkhand protested over the same issues, and the paper leak issue came up in Punjab, they did not turn up. Since Jharkhand and Punjab don’t have BJP governments, they are simply not interested in going there,” he said.
Kumar further alleged that the group’s real objective was to create anarchy and oppose the BJP. “Their agenda is to create anarchy in the country and oppose the BJP. This is purely an agenda-driven protest. They keep jumping from one issue to another,” he stated. He claimed that CJP activists stayed away from student protests in Jharkhand and described the outfit as “anarchists.” He also pointed to reportedly low turnouts at related gatherings in Bengaluru and Mumbai, saying the public was watching and that the group’s “moral hypocrisy” was being exposed.
The CJP, a youth-led movement that began as satirical online activism in May 2026, had called for a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on October 10 demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Authorities had denied permission for the gathering. Police and central forces imposed tight restrictions, including closures of dozens of metro stations and barricading of key roads. Media reports estimated thousands of people were detained across the city, including CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and co-leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka (taken into custody after their flight from Mumbai landed) as well as several opposition leaders.
The group has a track record of mobilising around examination irregularities and education reforms. Its earlier sit-in at Jantar Mantar in July 2026 over paper-leak concerns contributed to the resignation of then Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has defended the security measures, saying the capital “will not be held hostage” by what the government views as attempts to spread anarchy.
Sujeet Kumar, a Rajya Sabha member from Odisha who joined the BJP in 2024 after resigning from the Biju Janata Dal, has previously commented on youth protests and parliamentary disruptions. The CJP has announced plans to continue demonstrations until its demand regarding the Election Commission is met. The Election Commission has rejected allegations of irregularities in the voter-roll exercise.
