Prime Minister Narendra Modi received Chinese Foreign Minister and Politburo member Wang Yi in Delhi today, marking a significant moment in India-China diplomatic relations.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping’s personal invitation to PM Modi for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, which Modi accepted.

During the meeting, PM Modi emphasised the importance of maintaining peace and tranquillity along the India-China border, calling it the cornerstone of healthy bilateral ties. He reiterated India’s commitment to a fair and mutually acceptable resolution of the boundary issue.

The Prime Minister welcomed the steady progress in relations since his last meeting with President Xi in Kazan, highlighting mutual respect and sensitivity. He also noted the symbolic resumption of the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra as a positive sign of improving ties.

Wang Yi shared his positive assessment of recent meetings with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Shri Ajit Doval, including the 24th Special Representatives’ Meeting.

PM Modi expressed support for China’s presidency of the SCO and looked forward to engaging with President Xi in Tianjin. He underlined that stable and constructive India-China relations are vital for regional and global peace and prosperity.
