The Odisha State Maritime Museum (OSMM) in Jobra, Cuttack, witnessed a significant cultural milestone with the inauguration of its refurbished Indonesian gallery today.

The event was graced by H.E. Ina Hagniningtyas Krisnamurthi, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to India, and Anu Garg, IAS, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Odisha.

The revamped gallery, located on the right bank of the Mahanadi River, showcases an enriched collection of artefacts that highlight the centuries-old maritime and cultural connections between Odisha and Indonesia. Upgrades include state-of-the-art lighting, improved signage, and advanced artefact preservation techniques, ensuring a more immersive experience for visitors. The gallery stands as a testament to the shared history and enduring friendship between the two regions.

During the inauguration, Ambassador Krisnamurthi expressed her delight at the warm hospitality in Odisha, noting that the refurbished gallery is a “true tribute to the deep and rich history of the Odisha-Indonesia relationship.” She emphasised the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening bilateral ties.

Garg echoed these sentiments, expressing gratitude for the Indonesian Embassy’s continued support in fostering cultural collaboration. She shared her vision for further modernising the museum and expanding partnerships with Indonesia and other ASEAN countries to enhance visitor experiences and promote Odisha’s maritime heritage globally.

The event marks a significant step in preserving and promoting the historical and cultural linkages between Odisha and Indonesia, with the refurbished gallery poised to attract scholars, tourists, and enthusiasts alike.

The Odisha State Maritime Museum continues to serve as a beacon of the region’s rich maritime legacy, now with an even stronger connection to its Southeast Asian counterparts.
