The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for multiple districts in Odisha, predicting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall from August 5 to August 9.
Surface winds may reach speeds of 30–40 kmph, with hazardous weather conditions likely to affect various regions across the state.
Districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati are expected to be impacted. On August 7 and 8, heavy rainfall is forecast for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda, intensifying flood concerns in vulnerable areas.
The IMD has urged residents to remain cautious, avoid open areas during lightning storms, and secure loose items to minimise wind damage. Authorities are on alert to manage potential disruptions to transportation, agriculture, and daily life.
