Gujarat: A multi-storey building collapsed in Surat’s Sachin area on Saturday afternoon. Many feared to be trapped under the debris.
Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot reported that a woman was rescued from beneath the rubble. Police and fire department teams are at the scene, and rescue operations are in progress.
“Around 3 pm today, a six-storey building collapsed in the Sachin area. Several residents were trapped inside. The police and fire brigade responded immediately. One woman was rescued from the debris”, said Gehlot.
“Out of 30 flats in the building, 4-5 were occupied, the rest were vacant. Many occupants were at work, and those who were sleeping after a night shift were among the trapped. NDRF and SDRF teams are working on-site. It is estimated that 5-6 people are still trapped,” Gehlot added while briefing about the shocking event.
Surat Collector Dr. Sourabh Pardhi said, “A six-storey building has collapsed, and 4-5 people are believed to be trapped. One woman has been rescued and taken to the hospital. The fire team, NDRF, and police are working to rescue the remaining individuals as quickly as possible.”
As of the time this report was composed, one woman has been rescued, four to five people may still be trapped under the rubble as search and rescue efforts are underway.
