Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a fresh attack on the BJP-led Central Government, echoing U.S. President Donald Trump’s description of India as a “dead economy.”
“Everyone knows this — except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister,” Mr. Gandhi told reporters at Parliament. “I’m glad President Trump has stated a fact. The BJP has destroyed the economy, and they’ve done it to help Adani ji.”
The remarks come a day after President Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian imports and accused both India and Russia of having “dead economies.”
Mr. Gandhi also claimed that any future trade deal with the United States would be dictated by Trump. “Modi ji will do whatever the American President tells him,” he said, while criticising the government’s foreign policy.
“The External Affairs Minister calls it a genius foreign policy. But the U.S. is abusing you, China is aggressive, and no country even condemns Pakistan when we send delegations abroad. They simply don’t know how to run the country,” he added
