Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Pravati Parida emphasised the state government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring gender-sensitive environments across institutions in a resolute push for workplace dignity and safety.

Speaking at a well-attended orientation programme on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 — commonly known as the POSH Act — she called for a united stand against harassment.

Addressing over 600 employees at the Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Centre, Smt. Parida underscored that sexual harassment is not gender-specific. “Both men and women can be victims, making it vital for every individual to understand the POSH Act’s provisions and speak up,” she asserted.

She drew a powerful analogy, likening men and women to “two wheels of society” and urging harmony and mutual respect. Asserting institutional responsibility, she shared that strict directives have been issued to establish Internal Committees in all organisations and educational institutions, ensuring compliance and redressal mechanisms.

Smt. Parida reaffirmed that legal action would be taken following a proper investigation and cautioned against false allegations, noting that even such cases would face consequences.

The programme also featured an insightful session led by legal expert Smt. Manasi Padhi elaborated on the POSH Act’s provisions, rights, and responsibilities. Her presentation focused on practical awareness and empowered participation.

Senior officials, including Ms. Monisha Banerjee, Director of the Department of Women and Child Development, also marked their presence, reinforcing the department’s proactive stance on workplace safety.
