A 27-year-old youth lost his life to electrocution in Sadar village in the Mathili block of Malkangiri district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sadhu Bhumia, a resident of Sadar village.
According to information, Sadhu was doing routine work in his backyard when he noticed wild bushes densely covering a nearby electric pole. In an effort to clear the overgrown creepers, he began trimming the plants.
During the process, he accidentally came into direct contact with a live electrical wire hidden within the bush. The strong electric shock threw him to the ground, leaving him unconscious.
Hearing Sadhu’s loud cries, family members rushed out and immediately raised an alarm.
On receiving the information, an ambulance arrived immediately and transported the youth to the Mathili Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, upon arrival, the doctors declared Sadhu dead.
Following discussions, a formal written complaint was lodged at Mathili Police Station, following which Inspector-in-Charge Deepanjali Pradhan took immediate notice and dispatched a police team to the hospital.
The police then seized the body and registered a case of unnatural death (UD case). The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
