A 25-year-old tourist from Gujarat’s Ahmedabad tragically lost his life during a paragliding take-off at the Indrunag site near Dharamshala on Monday evening.

The deceased, identified as Satish Rajesh Bhai, was accompanied by pilot Suraj, who also sustained injuries.

The accident occurred when the paraglider failed to lift into the air shortly after take-off, crashing after a brief flight. Satish suffered severe injuries to his head and face and was initially treated at the Zonal Hospital in Dharamshala before being referred to Tanda Medical College, where he later succumbed. Suraj is currently undergoing treatment at Bala Ji Hospital in Kangra.

This marks the second fatal accident at Indrunag in six months, raising serious questions about safety protocols. A similar tragedy in January claimed the life of 19-year-old Bhavsar Khushi, also from Ahmedabad.

In response to growing safety concerns, Kangra District authorities have imposed a complete ban on paragliding activities across the region, including the popular Bir Billing site, until September 15.

The police have launched an investigation into possible violations of safety norms. A widely circulated video of the crash has intensified scrutiny, prompting calls for stricter regulations in adventure tourism.
