Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida conducted an aerial and ground-level survey of flood-affected regions in Balasore district, including the Bhograi and Baliapal blocks, where people remain marooned days after the second wave of flooding from the Subarnarekha river this year.

Despite the absence of heavy rainfall, the repeated rise in Subarnarekha’s water level has disrupted normal life, devastating agriculture and leaving several communities waterlogged. Local farmers reportedly suffered severe crop losses, with many describing this flood as a breaking point.

Deputy CM Parida, accompanied by Member of Parliament Pratap Chandra Sarangi, Basta MLA Subasini Jena, Nilgiri MLA Santosh Khatua, Balasore Sadar MLA Manas Dutta, and senior administrative and police officials, began her visit via helicopter from Talsari. She proceeded by road to Bhograi and Baliaapal before taking a boat into Madhupura Panchayat’s Chaudhuri Kuda village.

There, she engaged directly with affected families, listening to their concerns and challenges. Locals highlighted issues such as insufficient relief material, damage to farmlands, and stagnant floodwater. In response, Parida promised immediate intervention, directing local authorities to expedite assistance.

“This government is committed to swift and sensitive disaster response. Every grievance will be resolved without delay,” she assured.

The visit underscores the administration’s focus on inclusive governance and disaster preparedness amid recurring monsoonal floods in Odisha’s coastal districts.
