Bhubaneswar:Â Putting an end to long queues before booking counters, the Odisha Forest, Environment and Climate Change minister, Pradip Kumar Amat, launched an online terminal on Wednesday for Nandankanan Zoo visitors to reserve tickets through WhatsApp.
Visitors will now find a new monkey species, four Hoolock Gibbons, brought from Mizoram and Itanagar, in a newly-built enclosure-59 of the Nadankakan Zoological Park at Barang in Cuttack.
Notably, the Hoolock Gibbon resides in eastern Bangladesh, northwest Myanmar, and southwest China and is the only tailless ape in northeast India. According to the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the tailless primate is an endangered species.Â
The minister declared during the opening of the enclosure and the introduction of the online ticket ordering system via WhatsApp, “We have taken another step ahead as several new species were brought into the zoo. Additional infrastructural projects like staff housing were presented alongside their enclosure. In the upcoming days, all of these developmental actions will be completed. I aspire to see Nandankanan Zoo grow into a top-tier zoo.
