Flooding in northern Odisha has worsened as the Subarnarekha river surged past the danger level, submerging over 30 villages in Balasore’s Bhograi block. At Rajghat, the river was flowing at 10.83 metres by 7 AM on Tuesday—well above the danger mark—raising serious flood alerts.

Floodwaters have inundated large portions of 15 panchayats in Bhograi, damaging homes, roads, and standing crops. Many villagers are reportedly marooned, with movement severely restricted.

Meanwhile, in Basta block, the Jalaka river is nearing danger levels. At Mathani, the river measured 6.50 metres against the danger mark of 6.59 metres. Around 10 villages are already partially submerged.

Worst-hit Kusuda village is under knee-to-waist-deep water, with residents stranded and expressing anger over the delayed administrative response.

“This is the second flood spell in days, and we’re still waiting for help. Roads are gone, water has entered our homes, and we have no drinking water,” a local resident told OTV.

Despite the dire situation, villagers claim no official aid has reached them yet. Livestock and families are reportedly trapped in many areas.

The district administration is said to be monitoring the situation, but relief and rescue efforts have yet to gain momentum. No official statements have been issued as of now.
