In a shocking incident that rocked the Charampa area of Bhadrak, a local trader was critically injured after unidentified assailants shot him near the Ram Mandir locality and fled with his money bag. The incident occurred on Saturday evening just as the trader was closing his shop and heading home.
Promptly responding to the incident, Eastern Range DIG Satyajit Nayak visited the crime scene on Sunday morning, accompanied by Bhadrak SP Manoj Rout and the Town Police IIC. The police team thoroughly inspected the shop, warehouse, and surrounding area, reviewed nearby CCTV footage, and interacted with residents to gather leads.
According to sources, the victim was shot in the lower abdomen and rushed first to Bhadrak Hospital and then referred to a higher centre in Cuttack for advanced treatment. The contents of the looted bag are yet to be determined as the victim remains in critical condition and is unable to provide a statement.
DIG Nayak later visited the victim’s home and interacted with his family members, reassuring them of a swift and thorough investigation. He described the case as “extremely sensitive” and said that both robbery and personal enmity are being considered as possible motives.
To ensure public safety and curb further incidents, police have intensified checking, blocking, and patrolling across Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj districts. Nayak emphasised that further clarity on the attackers’ identity, motive, and movement will emerge as the investigation progresses.
As the town reels from the brazenness of the attack, especially in a small urban centre like Bhadrak, law enforcement officials are leaving no stone unturned to restore public confidence and bring the perpetrators to justice.
