BJD Slams BJP’s “Double-Engine” Governance in Odisha as a “Double Deception”

In a sharp political critique, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what it calls a “double deception” under the pretext of “double-engine sarkar” governance in Odisha.

The phrase, commonly used by the BJP to signify governance synergy between State and Centre, has been turned on its head by the BJD, who allege that this model has only resulted in unmet promises and hollow assurances for the people of Odisha.

In an official statement, BJD leaders pointed out what they called a glaring disconnect between the BJP’s electoral commitments and the actual progress on the ground. “People were promised fast-tracked development, improved infrastructure, and better governance. What they’ve received instead is political drama and stalled projects,” said Senior BJD leader and political affairs committee member Sanjay Kumar Das Burma at a press conference.

The ruling regional party also highlighted key concerns such as irregular central funding, lack of collaborative execution on central schemes, and what it called the BJP’s apathy towards Odisha’s regional needs.

The BJD emphasised that despite the façade of cooperation, the Centre’s support has remained inconsistent, thereby undermining the true potential of dual-party governance.

Former Minister Snehangini Chhuria and BJD General Secretary Bhrugu Baxipatra criticised the state BJP government, stating that law and order in Odisha has significantly deteriorated during its first year in power.

Further criticising the BJP’s campaign strategies, the BJD stated that attempts to sway the electorate using national issues will fall flat against regional realities and performance metrics.

As Odisha approaches the upcoming elections, this exchange between the two political forces is expected to dominate political discourse across constituencies.
