Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, launched the UMEED Central Portal today, marking a significant milestone in the administration and management of Waqf properties in India.
Designed to enhance transparency and accountability, the portal will serve as a centralised digital platform for real-time uploading, verification, and monitoring of Waqf assets.
Calling it a historic step, Shri Rijiju emphasised the portal’s role in safeguarding the rights of minority communities and ensuring that Waqf assets are utilised effectively for the benefit of poor Muslims, particularly women and children. Shri George Kurian, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the portal would curb misuse and make Waqf administration more accessible to the public.
The UMEED Portal will introduce several key features, including geo-tagging of Waqf properties, an online grievance redressal system, and integration with GIS mapping for better tracking. The initiative is expected to revolutionise Waqf management by bringing greater efficiency, fostering public participation, and ensuring fair utilisation of community-owned assets.
