A major ammonia gas leak at the Paradip Ice Plant has left four workers ill, causing alarm in the industrial area.
The leak reportedly originated from a ruptured pipeline within the factory premises, leading to the rapid spread of toxic fumes across the surrounding locality.
Affected workers complained of eye and nasal irritation due to exposure. Upon receiving reports, emergency responders, including firefighters from IFFCO, PPL, and Kujang, rushed to the scene to contain the leak and minimise further harm. Authorities, including local police and the Paradip Additional District Magistrate Niranjan Behera, visited the site and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Efforts are underway to assess the cause of the gas leak and implement safety measures to prevent future occurrences. Meanwhile, officials are reviewing the ice factory’s documentation to determine compliance with industrial safety standards.
