In a significant step to bolster security at the Taj Mahal, authorities have installed an advanced anti-drone system designed to neutralise unauthorised aerial activity.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Taj Security) Syed Arib Ahmed announced that the system is now fully operational within the monument’s premises, effectively restricting drone movements within a 500-meter radius. “The system is capable of disabling drones within an 8-km range, but due to the security sensitivity of the Taj Mahal, we have initially limited monitoring to a 500-meter perimeter,” Ahmed stated.
Using radio frequency and GPS signal jamming technology, the system instantly disables any drone violating the restricted airspace. A rapid response team is deployed immediately upon detection to secure the device and identify its operator.
This deployment marks another instance where the Uttar Pradesh Police have utilised anti-drone systems to secure VIP locations and historical landmarks. Similar technology was previously used during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj and at the consecration ceremony of the Ram Lalla idol in Ayodhya in January 2024.
Authorities emphasise that the move aligns with broader security efforts to safeguard India’s iconic landmarks from potential threats.
