In yet another tragic incident, an 18-year-old NEET aspirant from Jammu & Kashmir allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room in Kota.
This marks the 15th such case in the city this year, sparking renewed discussions on student mental health and the pressures of competitive exams.
According to police reports, the student, Zeeshan, had spoken to a relative before the incident, expressing distress. Upon being informed, fellow students attempted to intervene but found her room locked from the inside. When they broke down the door, she was already deceased.
This tragedy comes just days after the Supreme Court questioned the Rajasthan government on the rising student suicides in Kota. The lack of preventive measures, including the widely recommended “anti-hanging device” for hostel rooms, has fueled concerns about inadequate support systems for students facing extreme academic stress.
Authorities have urged students in distress to seek help and provided contact information for mental health helplines.
