In light of ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has extended the red alert at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) for another week.

As a result, common visitors remain barred from entering the airport premises.

BPIA authorities have confirmed that security measures, including the activation of the airport’s anti-hijacking cell, will remain in effect. Airport director Prasanna Pradhan stated that secondary ladder point checks (SLPC) will be enforced for an extended period, ensuring a heightened level of security screening for passengers.

Additionally, BCAS has directed airport officials to withhold visitor passes, a precautionary measure considering the sensitive nature of Bhubaneswar airport operations. This move impacts approximately 200 daily visitors, including tourists and relatives accompanying passengers.

Airport sources recall that similar stringent security protocols were activated following a previous threat mail from Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Officials assure that all passengers will undergo enhanced security checks before boarding, emphasising operational safety amid prevailing geopolitical concerns.
