India is set to embark on a new era in Test cricket as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially named Shubman Gill as the new Test captain.
The announcement comes after the unexpected retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, creating a significant gap in the leadership structure.
Shubman Gill, who has consistently performed well for India in recent years, will assume the captaincy starting with the highly anticipated tour of England.
Additionally, Rishabh Pant has been appointed as the vice-captain, adding his dynamic presence to the leadership team.
This decision was made by the senior selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, who identified Gill as the ideal candidate for the captaincy role.
Jasprit Bumrah, the former vice-captain, was not considered for leadership duties due to concerns regarding workload management.
