New Delhi: The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi today informed that after the mandatory quarantine, two cheetahs have been released to a bigger enclosure for further adaptation to the Kuno habitat. Two other big cats will also be released soon, he said.
The important matter is that the animals are healthy and adjusting well, Modi stated.
“Great news! Am told that after the mandatory quarantine, 2 cheetahs have been released to a bigger enclosure for further adaptation to the Kuno habitat. Others will be released soon. I’m also glad to know that all cheetahs are healthy, active and adjusting well.”, he tweeted.
The eight cheetahs – now six – have remained in a small enclosure since they were brought to India. The remaining cheetahs will also be released into the big enclosure in the upcoming days in phases.
The decision to release the cheetahs in the big enclosure was taken after monitoring the facilities and inspecting the enclosure.
According to DFO Prakash Kumar Verma, cheetahs were released into a larger enclosure where they could find chital and deer for hunting.
Eight cheetahs were reintroduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Madhya Pradesh’s Kuna National Park on September 17 – his birthday – as part of Project Cheetah.
