The Indian U19 football team successfully defended their SAFF U19 Championship title, defeating Bangladesh in a nerve-racking penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Golden Jubilee Stadium.
The highly anticipated final began with India taking the lead just two minutes into the game, courtesy of a stunning free-kick from captain Singamayum Shami. Bangladesh fought back relentlessly, equalizing in the 61st minute through Md Joy Ahamed, setting up a dramatic finish.
With tensions running high, both teams battled for a winner but ultimately took the contest to penalties. India, initially faltering with a missed attempt, regained composure as Suraj Singh Aheibam made a crucial save and Bangladesh’s captain missed a vital shot.
