New Delhi: After Team India’s thrilling 5-run win over Bangladesh in their Super 12 match of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Adelaide on Wednesday, Bangladesh batter Nurul Hasan has accused Virat Kohli of “fake fielding”.
While talking to the presser after the match, the wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan said that the incident of “fake fielding” went unnoticed by on-field umpires and robbed his team of five potentially vital penalty runs in their T20 World Cup game.
Nurul said the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Brown missed an incident of ‘fake fielding’ from Kohli in the seventh over his side’s chase.
In the seventh over of the chase, when Bangladesh were cruising, Litton Das pushed an Axar Patel towards the off side and came back for a couple. When Arshdeep Singh the fielder, threw the ball towards the keeper, India’s Virat Kohli, standing a few metres in front of Dinesh Karthik, was seen making a gesture of collecting the ball and throwing when the ball was not even near him.
According to Law 41.5 which deals with unfair play “deliberate distraction, deception or obstruction of [the] batter” can lead to five penalty runs if the umpires find the fielding side guilty. But in this case, the umpires did not see anything wrong.
Set a revised target of 151 in 16 overs after a brief spell of rain, Bangladesh lost the match by five runs.
