India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) has flagged a fake video circulating on social media that falsely claimed Pakistan carried out a successful strike on an Indian military base in Amritsar, resulting in heavy casualties.

The PIB’s fact-check unit labeled the clip as “Pakistan Propaganda Alert”, clarifying that the footage was actually of a 2024 wildfire, completely unrelated to any military activity.

The misleading post was originally shared by an account named @Shamii_awan1, falsely alleging that multiple Indian soldiers were killed and injured in the supposed strike. The video, which showed intense flames, quickly went viral—before PIB stepped in.

In an official post on X, the fact-check wing wrote:

“Pakistan-based handles are spreading old videos falsely alleging strikes on a military base in Amritsar. #PIBFactCheck: The video being shared is from a wildfire from 2024. Avoid sharing unverified information and rely only on official sources from the Government of India for accurate information.”

The PIB reiterated its appeal for the public to avoid spreading unverified content, especially during sensitive periods like the aftermath of ‘Operation Sindoor’, which saw Indian forces strike nine terror targets across Pakistan and PoK following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

This is not the first misinformation flagged. A separate viral post had earlier claimed that Indian soldiers waved white flags at the Line of Control (LoC) to recover the bodies of fallen troops. That video too was debunked—it showed Pakistani soldiers waving white flags in September 2019, not Indian troops.

With propaganda and fake news spiking during the heightened Indo-Pak tensions, PIB has urged people to stay vigilant and trust only verified government sources.
