Prominent Germany-based YouTuber and social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was detained by law enforcement on Saturday morning, October 10, at his residence in Kendriya Vihar Society, Sector 56, Gurugram.
The detention occurred after joint teams from the Delhi and Gurugram police intervened to prevent Rathee from traveling to New Delhi to participate in the Cockroach Janta Party’s (CJP) unauthorized mass demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
Refusal to Comply Leads to Custody
According to senior Gurugram police officials, teams initially approached Rathee to request that he refrain from traveling to the national capital, citing widespread security lockdowns and the lack of official police permission for the gathering.
”Delhi Police also communicated the scenario with us after which our teams also reached his home and urged him to comply with the law and help in maintaining peace,” a senior police official stated. “However, we were forced to detain him after he turned down all the requests not to travel to Delhi. We would have preferred not to detain him in case Rathee had listened to the law enforcement agencies.”
Police personnel have been stationed outside his residence under standing security directives until further orders.
CJP Condemns “High-Handed Detention”
The Cockroach Janta Party reacted swiftly to the development, issuing sharp condemnation across social media platforms and its official channels.
”The Dictator is TERRIFIED of young people who question its wrongdoings and refuse to stay silent!” the outfit posted on X.
In a subsequent statement, the CJP described Rathee’s detention as part of an “aggressive, citywide government crackdown designed to silence democratic dissent regarding electoral roll irregularities,” demanding his immediate and unconditional release alongside hundreds of other activists currently held in temporary detention facilities.
Rathee had previously released a digital appeal encouraging citizens and supporters to gather in New Delhi for the CJP protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged discrepancies in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
