In a significant move to enhance India’s national security strategy, the government has restructured the National Security Advisory Board (NSAB), appointing Alok Joshi, former chief of the Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW), as its new chairman.

The revamped board features a multidisciplinary lineup of experts from various fields, including retired military officers Air Marshal PM Sinha, Lt Gen AK Singh, Rear Admiral Monty Khanna, retired police officers Rajiv Ranjan Verma and Manmohan Singh, and retired diplomat B Venkatesh Varma.

The NSAB’s primary role is to provide long-term analyses and policy recommendations to the National Security Council, addressing complex security challenges faced by the nation. The restructuring decision follows a Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, held after the Pahalgam terror attack. PM Modi expressed unwavering confidence in the Indian Armed Forces, granting them operational freedom to plan India’s response to emerging threats.

This development underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening national security and addressing cross-border challenges with a strategic approach.
