Odisha continues to endure a blistering heatwave as temperatures breached 44°C in multiple districts by Monday afternoon.

Jharsuguda recorded the State’s highest temperature at 44.8°C by 2:30 PM, with Sambalpur (42.6°C), Hirakud (41.8°C) and Rourkela (41.2°C) following close behind.

Coastal areas, while slightly cooler, battled intense humidity—with Puri and Gopalpur reporting 72% humidity, and Paradip at 70%, adding to the discomfort.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), day temperatures are expected to rise further by 3–5°C over the next three days. Several western districts, including Angul, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Bolangir, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kalahandi, and Nuapada, are expected to remain above 42°C.

Weather Warnings:

  • Yellow alert for thunderstorms with gusty winds (30–50 kmph) and lightning has been issued for Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Puri, and others.

  • While some regions like Balasore, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj may experience light rain or thundershowers, dry conditions will persist in most parts of Odisha.

Light showers are likely in Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangpur, with continued dry spells elsewhere. Thunderstorms with gusty winds (30–40 kmph) may hit a few of these areas again.

The IMD has also flagged Jharsuguda, Bolangir, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh for continued heatwave conditions.
