A wedding celebration at the sacred Mahavinayak Temple in Chandikhole turned chaotic on Friday when gunfire erupted, allegedly due to a political dispute.

Eyewitnesses said Duryodhana Behera of Bajabati village was attending the wedding along with others when Niranjan Rout, a former district council member from Tarangia, became involved in a heated argument with some youths. The tension escalated as Niranjan reportedly opened fire, and his supporters allegedly attacked Duryodhana and his group with sharp weapons.

Two individuals from Bajabati sustained injuries in the clash. A complaint has been lodged at Barchana Police Station, and an investigation is underway to determine whether the injuries were caused by gunshots or melee weapons.

Local authorities have urged the public to remain calm as police work to establish the facts behind the violent outbreak at what should have been a joyous event.
