A 64-year-old Iraqi national was apprehended at New Delhi’s international airport for attempting to smuggle over 1.2 kilograms of gold into the country.

The incident occurred following the suspect’s arrival on a flight from Baghdad.

The breakthrough came during a routine security screening when suspicious items were detected in the passenger’s luggage. Subsequent examinations confirmed that assorted yellow metal, silver-coated jewelry—suspected to be gold—was cleverly concealed within the baggage. Authorities are now investigating the purity and value of the recovered items under provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.

This arrest underscores the diligent efforts of customs officials in combating smuggling activities at India’s borders. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
