The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Odisha Crime Branch launched a raid on Friday at the residence of former Rajya Sabha MP N.
Bhaskar Rao in Raniguda, Rayagada, regarding an alleged Rs 80-crore financial misappropriation involving the local Truck Owners’ Association.
A 21-member special team led by Additional SP Ashish Kumar Mishra—comprising five DSPs and five Inspectors—conducted the search operation. The team had arrived in Rayagada earlier this week, examining financial documents at the local police station before executing the search at the former MP’s home. Officials are verifying and seizing critical documents tied to the alleged embezzlement.
The case stems from a complaint lodged by the late Y. Venkateswara Rao, former president of the association, who accused N. Bhaskar Rao and others of misappropriating funds worth nearly Rs 80 crore.
Given the gravity of the financial irregularity, the case was transferred from Rayagada Police to the Crime Branch’s EOW.
Ex-MP Bhaskar Rao was absent during the raid. EOW officials interrogated the staff present at the premises. Officials stated that further details will be disclosed as the investigation progresses.
