Stepping up efforts to position Odisha as a premier, sustainable luxury destination, Deputy Chief Minister Smt. Pravati Parida chaired a high-level review meeting at Tourism Bhawan on Wednesday to evaluate preparations for the upcoming statewide Eco Retreats.
With a core focus on blending high-end glamping with grassroots economic empowerment, the meeting mapped out a comprehensive strategy to ensure seamless tourist operations across eight diverse locations, including newly added hotspots. The upcoming season will span Konark, Sonapur Beach, Daringbadi, Hirakud, Satkosia, alongside new additions Talamali, Kolab, and Kusumbandh.
Prioritising Local Livelihoods and Culture
Emphasising that tourism must directly benefit the grassroots, Smt. Parida issued strict directives to prioritise local employment. Local youth and community members will be integrated into day-to-day operations and tourism-related services. Furthermore, the initiative will act as a major showcase for Odisha’s rich artistic heritage, carving out dedicated spaces for local artisans, craftsmen, and micro-entrepreneurs to exhibit their work and strengthen local micro-economies.
Upgrading Infrastructure and Safety Standards
To guarantee a world-class visitor experience, the Deputy Chief Minister reviewed foundational requirements, stressing the need for uninterrupted power supplies, robust road connectivity, and meticulous on-ground logistics.
Addressing visitor welfare, security, and healthcare received paramount importance. Smt. Parida instructed officials to roll out comprehensive safety protocols, including widespread CCTV surveillance, dedicated security details, and round-the-clock access to basic healthcare and paramedic facilities at every retreat site.
Expanding the Adventure Tourism Portfolio
Beyond luxury accommodation and scenic glamping, the blueprint encourages diversifying visitor engagement. The administration is pushing for the introduction of tailored adventure sports, recreational programs, and immersive cultural showcases across all eight sites. By transforming these properties into holistic eco-tourism hubs, Odisha aims to offer travellers a vibrant mix of nature, adventure, and authentic local culture.
The review session saw active participation from senior bureaucratic leadership, including Shri Balwant Singh, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Tourism Department, and Special Secretary Smt. Lipsa Das, alongside key officials from the Odisha Tourism Development Corporation (OTDC) and sector technical experts.
