AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi cited the historic victory of Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed in the Michigan US Senate race to call for a stronger Muslim political identity in Uttar Pradesh.
Reacting to El-Sayed becoming the first Muslim elected to the upper chamber of the US Congress, Owaisi stated that the result carries an important message for minority voters in India who face political taunts.
Taking to social media platform X, Owaisi wrote that “an Abdul has won in Michigan; now the Abdul from Uttar Pradesh will have to strengthen his political identity.”

He further asserted that the time had come for minority voters to demand substantive representation rather than acting as a captive vote bank.
The AIMIM chief’s remarks come ahead of the upcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, where Muslims constitute nearly a fifth of the electorate. Owaisi reiterated his accusations against both the ruling BJP and regional opposition parties like the Samajwadi Party for exploiting minority voters without offering true political empowerment.
The comments follow American network projections confirming 42-year-old medical administrator Abdul El-Sayed’s victory over Republican opponent Mike Rogers in a closely watched contest to succeed retiring Senator Gary Peters.
