A fierce political war of words erupted on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi over allegations of foreign interference in Indian politics.
The political row began after Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his Rashtriya Ekta Diwas address. Turning PM Modi’s warnings about foreign anti-India conspiracies back on the ruling administration, Gandhi alleged via social media that the Modi-led government and national financial systems were reliant on external support.
“I challenge you to an open debate about this. Any stage, any time. Come if you have the guts. You won’t dare, because you are terrified of what I know about you,” Gandhi wrote on X.
BJP Counterattack: Highlights 2023 UK Remarks
Hitting back firmly, BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan called Gandhi a “lousy con artist” and accused him of hypocrisy, citing Gandhi’s own past statements on foreign soil:
- Archival Video Shared: Kesavan shared a video clip from Gandhi’s March 2023 interaction in London, where the Congress leader questioned why Western democracies like the US and European nations were “oblivious” to India’s political landscape.
- Foreign Intervention Charge: The BJP maintained that it was Gandhi who explicitly sought international interference in domestic affairs by telling British think tanks that “it’s not just an Indian battle”.
