Delivery Giant Swiggy Caught in Rs 327-Crore GST Storm

Swiggy, India’s leading food and grocery delivery platform, finds itself in the midst of a financial storm as the Pune profession tax department issues a notice for unpaid dues worth Rs 7.6 crore for the fiscal year 2022.

This recent notice compounds Swiggy’s cumulative tax demands, which have reached Rs 167 crore over the past month from authorities across the country.

The notice highlights violations related to the deduction of profession tax from employee salaries, mandated under Maharashtra law. Swiggy, however, has indicated its intent to challenge the assessment, asserting the strength of its arguments in an exchange filing.

Adding to the concerns, Swiggy also faces flagged unpaid Goods and Services Tax (GST) liabilities exceeding ₹327 crore—a development that emerges barely five months after the company went public in November 2024.
