Actor Ranbir Kapoor shared deep insights into his emotional journey playing Lord Ram in director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming magnum opus Ramayana during a special Diwali appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC 18) alongside co-stars Sai Pallavi and Ravie Dubey.
Overcoming Initial Hesitation
When host Amitabh Bachchan asked the cast about their immediate reactions to being offered such legendary figures—Lord Ram, Sita, and Lakshman—Kapoor admitted that his initial instinct was rooted in hesitation and self-doubt.
”When this role was offered to me, I knew that this isn’t just a role, it is a big responsibility,” Kapoor shared during the broadcast. “My first instinct was fear—whether I am qualified enough to play this role or if I will be able to do justice to it. The faith of crores of people is linked to Lord Shri Ram. But very soon, that fear turned into gratitude.”
Reflections on Fatherhood and Sai Pallavi’s Approach
Kapoor highlighted that receiving the role coincided with becoming a father, making the spiritual experience even more profound.
”I felt gratitude that I got this opportunity at this stage in my life and a chance to become a better human,” he said. “I believe this film is a God-given gift to understand the Ramayana deeply… It is impossible to become like Lord Ram, but to learn something from him is a big deal for all of us.”
Co-star Sai Pallavi, who portrays Sita, revealed her own spiritual approach to the character:
”Every time I play a character, I think about what I can give to it, but this was the first time I thought—’What can I gain from playing Sita Maa?'” Pallavi explained. “I wanted to keep the process completely transparent. I prayed to Sita Maa and moved forward with faith.”
Ramayana: Part 1, which also stars Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, with music composed by Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman, is scheduled for a grand theatrical release on November 5, 2026.
