In a dramatic turn of events that brought immense relief to a distraught family, a four-and-a-half-year-old girl who went missing from outside her home in Odisha’s Baripada town was rescued safely on Monday morning, nearly 20 hours after she disappeared.
The heart-stopping incident began on Sunday around 11:00 AM in the Jamunadeipur area under Ward No. 18. According to police reports, the young child had just returned from her tuition classes and was playing near a pile of sand right outside the rented house where her family resides. Her mother had briefly stepped inside to tend to cooking, but upon returning moments later, she discovered her daughter was nowhere to be found.
Panic quickly ensued as family members and neighbours scoured the neighbourhood searching for any sign of the toddler. Failing to locate her, the family immediately rushed to the Bhanjpur police station to file a formal written complaint.
Recognising the urgency of the situation, law enforcement authorities sprang into action, forming three dedicated search teams to scour the town and launch an intensive investigation.
The agonising 20-hour ordeal finally came to an end on Monday morning when vigilant locals spotted an unidentified man suspiciously attempting to leave the child behind at her own house. Showing incredible presence of mind, the neighbours quickly nabbed the man and alerted the girl’s mother before handing him over to the arriving police officers.
Police have detained the unidentified suspect and are currently interrogating him to uncover his identity, his origins, and the exact motive behind the abduction. While the community breathes a sigh of relief over the child’s safe return, local authorities have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to ensure justice is served.
