Odisha Vigilance today arrested Babulu Suna, Senior Assistant-cum-In-Charge of the Establishment Section at the Sunabeda Wildlife Division DFO office in Nuapada, for embezzling over Rs 2.60 crore in government funds.
Suna, who had been absconding for the past six months, was tracked down and apprehended in Balangir last night. He is being forwarded to the Special Vigilance Court in Bhawanipatna.
Vigilance investigations revealed that Suna exploited his position to fabricate fraudulent arrear bills under the Modified Assured Career Progression (MACP) and Revised Assured Career Progression (RACP) schemes. Using credentials of former, retired, and deceased employees, he diverted public funds into bank accounts belonging to his spouse, brother, sister, and two close associates.
Additionally, Suna manipulated official records to inflate his own periodical salary increments, wrongfully drawing over Rs 10.58 lakh in excess salary. In total, he misappropriated Rs 2,60,21,306 since 2023.
Two cases (Koraput Vigilance PS Case Nos. 24 & 25/2026) have been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation remains underway.
