US President Donald Trump hinted at the possibility of renewed military action against Iran as early as Sunday, while simultaneously leaving the door open for diplomatic talks.
Speaking to reporters, Trump noted Tehran’s interest in an agreement to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz but questioned its reliability. Asked about potential strikes, Trump stated, “There’s a possibility I will. There’s also a possibility we’ll have a nice, big, beautiful agreement,” praising US military operations for crippling Iran’s naval and air capabilities.
However, Iran has rejected claims that it proposed reopening the shipping lane in exchange for ending the US naval blockade, labelling the reports “a lie and fabrication”.
Meanwhile, US intelligence agencies detected “substantially increased” Iranian efforts to target American diplomats and personnel worldwide. An October 23 memo indicated that several plots have reached “advanced stages,” prompting the State Department to reduce staffing at key embassies across the Middle East.
Security officials also remain vigilant regarding potential expanded operations by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, threatening further regional instability.
