Team India has been dealt a sudden blow ahead of their second T20 International against New Zealand, as dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has been officially ruled out of Saturday’s clash.
According to a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Kishan sustained a low-grade right adductor strain—affecting the group of muscles located on the inner side of the thigh—during the series opener on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Despite the injury, India managed to secure a thrilling four-wicket victory to take an early lead in the series.
“Ishan Kishan is ruled out of the second T20I against New Zealand due to a low-grade right adductor strain, which he sustained during the first T20I of the series,” the BCCI statement read. “The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”
At present, the BCCI has not specified a definitive recovery timeline for the explosive left-hander, leaving his participation in the remainder of the series hanging in the balance. The medical staff will continue to evaluate his fitness over the coming days as India looks to seal the series without one of their key explosive options at the top of the order.
