The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) registered a landmark victory in the college and university campus union elections held across Odisha after a gap of eight long years.
Reacting to the outcomes on Friday, Minister for Works and Law, Prithiviraj Harichandan, stated that today’s youth—often referred to as Gen Z—have overwhelmingly placed their faith in the ABVP.
According to Minister Harichandan, ABVP candidates secured wins in more than 70% of the colleges and universities across the state. The results reflect immense enthusiasm among students who were eager to exercise their democratic rights after nearly a decade without campus representation.
“Today’s young generation, or Gen Z, is actively interested in participating in the democratic process. The massive support for ABVP across the state clearly demonstrates their trust in our vision,” Minister Harichandan noted.
The campus elections took place on October 15, followed by the official oath-taking ceremony on Friday. Although minor delays and brief moments of tension were reported during the vote counting in a few locations, the overall election process remained peaceful and smooth across the state.
ABVP candidates swept key positions in educational hubs spanning Bhubaneswar, Sambalpur, Berhampur, and Angul, among several other districts. The revival of campus democracy has injected fresh vigor into political and student circles across Odisha.
