Tensions gripped Siddhartha Degree College in Binka, Sonepur district, on Wednesday morning after a chilling banner threatening to kill the institution’s principal was discovered hanging at the main entrance.
The threatening banner specifically warned Principal Dhirendra Nayak to stay away from the upcoming student union elections, declaring that he would face death if he failed to comply. College staff members spotted the ominous message early in the morning and immediately alerted the principal.
Principal Nayak formally reported the incident to the Binka police and senior district officials in writing. Speaking to reporters, Nayak expressed suspicion that outsiders might be behind the sinister act, emphasising that the general atmosphere among students on campus has remained peaceful.
Promptly responding to the alert, a team from the Binka police station rushed to the campus, seized the banner, and deployed security personnel to maintain law and order and reassure the academic community.
The Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of the Binka police station confirmed that a formal investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for putting up the banner. At this stage, the exact motive and the identities of those involved remain unknown as local authorities continue their pursuit of the suspects.
