NO Cyclone Threat To Odisha, Weather To Remain Mostly Dry For Dussehra!

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has dispelled rumors of a cyclone threat to Odisha, providing major relief to residents preparing for the upcoming Dussehra festivities.

Although an active cyclonic circulation over the South Andaman Sea is expected to form a low-pressure area, experts confirm that environmental conditions are unsupportive of significant intensification.

Low-Pressure System Unlikely to Intensify

According to meteorologists, the atmospheric and oceanic parameters surrounding the current circulation remain unfavorable for rapid strengthening.

As a result, the weather system is expected to remain restricted to a simple low-pressure or well-marked low-pressure area as it moves across the Bay of Bengal.

Speaking on the development, Regional Meteorological Centre scientist Dr. Rajashree V.P.M. confirmed that the probability of the system turning into a cyclonic storm is negligible, reassuring the public that Odisha faces no threat of severe storm activity during the festive period.

Region-Wise Weather Forecast for Dussehra

The weather outlook for the state across the coming week remains largely dry and stable, with the ongoing withdrawal process of the Southwest Monsoon:

  • Light to Moderate Rains: Scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected across 15 coastal and interior districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khordha, and Puri.
  • Western Odisha: No significant rainfall activity is anticipated in the western districts, ensuring dry conditions.
  • Mid-Week Showers: Isolated pockets may experience brief, moderate showers around October 17–18.
  • Temperature Trends: Both daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to remain consistent throughout the week, with Banpur in Khordha recording the highest recent rainfall at 30 mm and Talcher recording a maximum temperature of 35.4°C.
