Punjabi makeup artist and social media influencer Mad Sandhu was shot dead by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle in Amritsar on Saturday evening, according to reports.
Sandhu, whose full name was Madhusudan, sustained a gunshot wound and was found lying on the road. He reportedly died while being taken to hospital.
According to NDTV, an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police said that two unidentified men fired at Sandhu at around 6 PM. Police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the shooting.
The identities of the attackers and the motive behind the killing are yet to be established. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Who Was Mad Sandhu?
Sandhu was known for his work as a makeup artist and stylist and frequently appeared on podcasts discussing makeup, the Punjabi film industry, fashion, social issues and gender.
He began his career in the fashion industry, working as a stylist and assistant costume designer on projects in Punjab and Mumbai. He later gained popularity on Instagram through reels and videos featuring fashion, beauty, lifestyle and commentary on social norms and pop culture.
Sandhu also appeared in Punjabi films, including the Oye Bhole Oye series.
Sandhu Spoke Openly About His Identity
Sandhu had publicly spoken about being a gay man and had faced homophobic trolling on social media.
Responding to criticism about his identity, he had said, “God had made me the way I am.”
A video showing Sandhu lying on the road after the shooting has circulated on social media. Police are investigating the incident, while further details about the circumstances and motive remain awaited.
