Bhubaneswar: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro on Saturday suspended three BJP MLAs for hurling shoes at him thereby tarnishing the dignity of the Speaker’s Chair.
The suspended MLAs are Jayanarayan Mishra, Bishnu Charan Sethi, and Mohan Majhi. They have been debarred from attending the current Assembly session.
The unruly BJP members hurled shoes, earphones, and papers to Speaker’s podium. After suspending them, the Speaker asked the three members to leave the House.
The BJP members have sat in a dharna under Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the premises of the State Assembly protesting the Speaker’s decision.
Reports said the Speaker had taken the decision to suspend the BJP members after analyzing CCTV footage of the proceedings.
