A gruesome murder has shocked the capital city of Bhubaneswar, with the suspicious death of Jyoti Ranjan Behera, a young grocery shop worker from Bahadalpur, whose body was discovered near the Sewage Treatment Plant on Sundarpada-Sarakantara Road, under the Airfield police station limits.
The victim’s family alleges that Jyoti was brutally killed by miscreants who looted his gold chain, cash, and other valuables. According to police reports, Jyoti did not return home on Sunday night, prompting his family to file a missing person report at the Airfield PS. The following morning, his body was found on the Sundarpada road.
The family claims that unidentified assailants murdered Jyoti and fled with his gold chain, rings, and cash. The Airfield police have registered a case (No. 270/25) and initiated a thorough investigation.
The police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. Evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and nearby CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify the perpetrators. The investigation is also exploring the robbery angle, as the victim’s valuables were reported missing.
This incident has sparked fear among Sundarpada residents, who are now demanding stricter security measures in the area. This is not the first such incident in Sundarpada. Previous cases, including the murder of Amaresh Nayak during Diwali and Deepak Routaray during New Year, have heightened local concerns about safety. While police investigations into these cases are ongoing, some remain unresolved, with allegations that suspects in earlier cases have not been apprehended.
The Airfield police have intensified night patrols and are conducting raids to nab the culprits involved in Jyoti’s murder. The recurring incidents of violence in Bhubaneswar have raised serious questions about the city’s safety, with residents urging authorities to bolster nighttime security to prevent such tragedies in the future.
