Police in Brajrajnagar uncovered a shocking murder after recovering the body of a 19‑year‑old youth from Tangar Ghat forest near Kukurikani in the Rampur area in Jharsuguda district.
The victim, identified as Sahil Sahis of Buguda Pada, had gone missing on February 1. His father, Satyanarayan Sahis, reported the disappearance to the Rampur outpost. Acting on leads, police discovered Sahil’s body on February 5 inside a sack with his hands and legs tied. Investigators confirmed that he had been killed two to three days earlier and dumped in the forest.
Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra, along with SDPO Chintamani Pradhan and IIC Dhableswar Sahu, led the investigation. Scientific teams examined the site and collected evidence.
On Saturday, SP Raghavendra revealed in a press briefing that five juveniles were involved in the murder. The accused, all friends of Sahil, allegedly attacked him after a dispute over a silver chain. They assaulted him at two different locations before dumping his body in the forest.
Police arrested the juveniles and sent them to a juvenile correctional home. The SP confirmed that the investigation continues to establish further details of the crime.
The Brajrajnagar murder case has raised serious concerns in the district, highlighting how minor disputes can escalate into violent crimes. Authorities assured strict action and urged communities to remain vigilant.
