A day after a teenage boy tragically lost his life while allegedly filming a social media reel near railway tracks, another risky incident occurred at Puri’s Golden Beach, where a youth drove his scooter into the sea while recording a video.
Youth Rescued After Dangerous Stunt
Eyewitnesses reported that the youth narrowly escaped drowning when locals intervened, pulling him and the scooter back to safety. He sustained minor injuries in the incident.
According to reports, the youth attempted to shoot a short video for social media while riding along the popular beach stretch. As waves advanced toward the shore, he lost control, and the scooter became stuck in wet sand, leaving him at risk of being swept further into the water. The incident was captured on video and quickly circulated on social media, drawing attention to the growing trend of risky stunts for online content.
Tragic Incident the Previous Day
The recent stunt follows the death of a 17-year-old boy from Manglaghat, Puri district, who was hit by a speeding train on October 22 while filming a reel near Janakadeipur railway station.
The teen had accompanied his mother to the Dakshinakali Temple and reportedly stopped near the tracks to record a video. Standing too close to the line, he was struck and died at the scene. The Government Railway Police (GRP) recovered the body for post-mortem examination. Preliminary findings suggest negligence while filming contributed to the fatal accident.
Concerns Over Social Media Risks
These incidents highlight the increasing obsession with viral social media content, which can pose serious safety risks. Authorities have urged young people and social media users to exercise caution and responsibility while creating online videos.
No official statement from Puri Police was available at the time of reporting.
