Rourkela police arrested a 19-year-old youth with heroin worth Rs 1.35 lakh during routine patrolling in Timber Colony under Plantsite Police Station limits.
Sub-Inspector S. Bal and his team noticed the accused near a public toilet behind Deepti Hotel and found him allegedly selling narcotics.
The accused, identified as Monu Nayak, son of Santosh Nayak from Gopabandhupalli, Kailash Dham in Sundargarh district, carried 27 grams and 74 milligrams of heroin in an envelope. Police also seized a white OPPO Reno 15 Pro Mini 5G mobile phone from his possession.
Authorities confirmed that the heroin’s estimated market value stood at Rs 1.35 lakh. The arrest marked a significant crackdown on the illegal drug trade in the region. Police took Monu Nayak into custody and initiated further investigation to trace the source of the contraband and identify possible links to a larger drug network.
Officials reiterated their commitment to curb drug trafficking in Rourkela and urged citizens to remain vigilant. They encouraged residents to report suspicious activities to help dismantle networks involved in narcotics distribution.
