India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is set to make his return to Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign after recovering from acute gastroenteritis. The left-hander signalled his readiness with an intense net session on Tuesday morning, well ahead of his teammates.
Training at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya ground under misty conditions, Jaiswal spent close to an hour in the nets, looking comfortable against both pace and spin. The closed-door session suggested that the opener is ready to rejoin competitive action as Mumbai enter a crucial phase of the group stage.
Missed Early Matches Due to Illness
Jaiswal had missed Mumbai’s first three matches of the tournament while recovering from illness. He is now expected to be available for the team’s next three to four fixtures, starting with the match against Goa on Wednesday.
His return is likely to bring an immediate change to Mumbai’s batting order. Jaiswal is set to open the innings alongside Angkrish Raghuvanshi, with Ishan Mulchandani expected to make way.
Boost for Mumbai as Group Stage Intensifies
With the tournament gaining momentum, Jaiswal’s return comes at a vital time. His presence at the top of the order adds experience, attacking intent, and stability—key factors in morning games where conditions can favour bowlers early on.
Mumbai will be looking to capitalise on his ability to set the tempo and put pressure on opposition attacks from the outset.
Team Morale on the Rise
Mumbai bowling mentor Dhawal Kulkarni highlighted the positive atmosphere within the squad, noting the impact of senior players returning to action.
“The team is looking good and the players are in a strong frame of mind,” Kulkarni told Sportstar. “We are focused on taking things one game at a time.”
Kulkarni also pointed to the morale boost provided by experienced internationals rejoining the side.
“Rohit coming in and now Yashasvi returning, along with other international players expected in the coming games, has really lifted the entire unit,” he said.
